Transferring an existing domain name entails switching the registrar company that handles the domain registration service, so after the transfer itself, you will have to manage things like renewal payments or DNS record updates through the new registrar company. The transfer procedure is standard with most universal and country-specific domain name extensions. Certain country-code extensions are more specific and involve different steps, but in the general case transferring a domain entails a few necessary steps and one of them is unlocking the domain. The domain lock is a safety feature, which is being adopted by more and more domain name registry operators. It’s a standard feature supported by all generic top-level domain names. If a domain is locked, it won’t be possible to initiate a transfer process, so nobody can even attempt to steal your domain. The lock can be annulled only through the account where the domain name is registered and all new domains that support this option are locked by default when they are registered.

Registrar Lock in Hosting

If you buy a hosting plan from our company, you will be able to administer all domain names registered through us via our Hepsia Control Panel and you’ll be able to unlock any of them with only a few mouse clicks. All registrations will be shown in alphabetical order in the Domain Manager section of the hosting Control Panel and for each one of them you’ll see a tiny padlock icon. Clicking on it will show you the present security lock status. If the domain is locked and you would like to transfer it away, you will just need to click once again and you will be all set. Locking a domain name is just as easy and since the domains are administered in the same location as the web hosting account itself, you will not need to log in and out of different user interfaces.

Registrar Lock in Semi-dedicated Servers

In case you would like to transfer a domain from our company to another domain name registrar and you have a semi-dedicated server account, you will be able to get the domain ready with only a couple of mouse clicks. All your domain name registrations will be listed in a separate section of the Hepsia Control Panel – the exact same tool via which you will administer your hosting account. If a specific gTLD or ccTLD supports the registrar lock feature, you’ll see a padlock icon. You can find out whether the domain name is locked or not by clicking on that icon once and you can alter the status by clicking for a second time. That’s all it takes and there will be nothing else that you or we will have to do, so you can proceed with the domain transfer process right away. The update will propagate instantly, so you will not need to wait for the status to be updated on WHOIS lookup sites.
